the philosophical underpinnings

I am full, sleepy and extremely knackered.

Today was the first completely full day that I’ve done at uni. Usually we have a morning lecture and that’s it but this one was big giant, massive lecture with only an hour break in the middle. I nearly died. Our lecture starts at 10.30am and finishes at 4 and then I have Photoshop class from 4 until 6pm. I don’t know how I’m going to survive every Thursday from now on :<

It was the first lesson for this module as well and it was just so much information thrown at us in what seemed like a short amount of time and then, just to make things worse our lecturer decided to get us in groups and have us do a mini presentation. Great (!) He basically wants us to do presentations every week, so we grow more confident in speaking in front of people. We’re not allowed to use any Powerpoint presentations because that’s basically hiding behind a smokescreen because people usually just read off the board what is written and be done with it (which is what I do, not gonna lie). So, as a practice our lecturer made us go out and research the question, “What food do students prefer to eat when they’re in university?” We had an hour (cry). We managed to do it but our lecturer picked out parts of our presentation that didn’t seem relevant to what we were supposed to be researching, i.e. why we split it into male and female (it’s a subconcious thing, I think), etc. This module is basically teaching us why? Why did we go research this? Why did we choose this method of research? And so on. I swear, my head was banging by the end of the lesson.

We have a presentation due for next week and it’s so hectic because we also have to keep group attendance (which I am meant to be keeping) and if one person doesn’t turn up a group meeting then that person getting zero. Which makes sense because in other modules when we do presentations there’s always that one person who rocks up 10 minutes before the presentation with some scrappy bit of paper and they just read off that and they get the same mark as you even though you did all the work. So, our lecturer was like that’s not gonna happen. EVERYBODY in the group WILL do work. I’m so glad. He’s a good teacher, that’s for sure, and I swear if it was anyone else teaching the subject I probably wouldn’t died of boredom. >.<

My group’s presentation next week is on Madeline McCann. We have to come up with our own research question, a hypothesis and how and why we came up with the decisions to use the other two. Wish me luck (thumbsup)

Day 14: A silly picture of you/ you & your friends

This was taken in April ’09 on our way back from Graham Norton. I lookย extremelyย small ๐Ÿ™ Click to enlarge

  • How do you do when it comes to presentations?
  • Are you a confident person?

I can remove spots on my face now thanks to Photoshop.

I hate it when there`s class all day. :/. I`m like usually
stuck at school from 7am til like 5:30 or 6PM :O It is crazyness.
But thankfully, I am at school from 7~3 now ^__^! You can survive
this! Because you`ll have to survive your job/profession later on
:O! And its as equally later on ๐Ÿ˜› I want to have that… Paper. I
think. :O If I have a choice. I would say. We should be able to get
out of school for food. ๐Ÿ˜› Just kidding XD! I hate school food. I
just want something that will not make me waste. ๐Ÿ˜› I hate group
works because of that reason. There is always that one person who
doesn`t do work. :/. or doesnt do it good enough!! I don`t care.
It`s crappy and it`ll get a crappy grade! I am confident in person.
๐Ÿ˜› Because. I like to be silly XD!

Wow, seven and a half hours of straight school? That is
crazy! I mean, that’s about how long I am at school but we have
break and lunch and such. I don’t blame you for being tired. Whoa,
that presentation seems pretty stressful. Only an hour to put
everything together? That would be really difficult! However,
public speaking is a good skill to have because if you ever work in
some corporate office you will definitely have to give
presentations. Ah, it’s good that he is making everything really
fair! I would be really annoyed if people took my work as their
own. /: Having everyone show up or get a zero is much more just.
It’s good that he is a good teacher! Good luck on your
presentation. (: Aw, that picture is so cute! That is such a great
idea. You look great. ^^ 1. Bah, not that great. I don’t like
talking. 2. And no! Haha. Photoshop is so convenient for things
like that. ;D — No, I’m not writing a book, I am actually making
the book. Like gluing the paper to the cardboard, punching holes in
the paper, and sewing it all together. But thanks! ^^ Yeah, I don’t
really know why some people can see the pictures and others cannot.
Sorry! D; Aw, congrats on hitting the two week mark! Only two more
weeks to go. Winterim is this three week period my school does
every year in January. As a freshman and sophomore you take four
‘out of the box’ classes. For example, I am taking Animation
Domination, Bookbinding, Greek, and Women and Finance. Then junior
and senior year you can travel internationally and intern wherever.
    (: It’s really cool!

Haha I guess it happens to everyone. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve been trying to
consistently return comments, though! How do you do when it comes
to presentations? I guess I’m not too bad at them but I’ve always
disliked public speaking haha. Good luck with your presentation! ๐Ÿ™‚
Are you a confident person? When I’m in a comfortable position,
    then yes, definitely haha.

Oh my gosh. That lecture sounds dreadful. I hate having
lectures in my 50 minute high school classes, I’m not really sure
how I could stand that long for like 5 hours! I hate doing
presentations/ speeches too. I’m one of those people that reads
directly off the Power Point and enjoy it. xD I guess it’s good in
the long run though so you’ll be more comfortable making
presentations. That’s great that you have a good teacher and that
everyone is doing their fair share of work. I usually dread doing
group projects because I end up doing half the load of work. So
    it’s good you don’t have to worry about that. I wouldn’t say I’m a
confident person at all. I’m pretty shy and don’t really like
putting myself out there all that much. Good luck on your
presentation! I live in St. Louis, so it’s pretty busy. I really
want to just get away from the same old same old and try to get out
of my comfort zone, which I don’t do enough. and thanks! I’m hoping
I can do it too. xP

Aw, jeez, I feel your pain. Presentations often suck, and
when you’re under pressure, they are even worse. I guess this is
what being at uni means. It has been not even a week since school
opened, and I have already so many projects to finish. How do you
do when it comes to presentations? – Thanks to my mum, I have a
knack for speaking in front of people. So I am pretty good at
presentations. Are you a confident person? – Usually. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yep,
    getting published is awesome. ๐Ÿ˜›

OMG. Why is the lecture so long? I only have 3 hours long
lecture at the maximum. Do you have lunch breaks in
    between?
