Thank you guys for all the birthday greetings (:
So, I’m 17 now. It’s still a little weird. Soph had to remind me to change my age on my welcome bit in the sidebar. I’m no longer ‘sweet’ sixteen! Almost legal, I would say. Paha.
I had a brilliant day on my birthday. Seriously, the fact that I passed my exams contributed to a great day too.
Firstly, my sister, mum and I went to Kensington Palace. I mean, I hate history. Seriously. However, I think it’s because my teacher made it boring that I never really got into it. Kensington Palace is full of history and surprisingly I found it really interesting. Especially the débutantes part. The dresses are really beautiful! My sister and I had one of those free audio tours, so when you go into each section of the Palace you press a number on the remote and you found out about the things in the room. I really like the Princess Diana section. Her dresses were so beautiful. I laughed at some of the clothes people had to wear if they were royalty, i.e the men had to wear stockings and these trousers that looked like a huge nappy. Paha.
The débutantes section was really huge because it was the Last of the Débutantes. They had all the dresses on display and there’s a small room with posters showing all the lessons the débutantes had to go through i.e How to reply to a invitation, How to behave in society, etc. And you could practice walking in a straight line with a book on your head for posture like Selena Gomez had to do in PPP when she got lessons from the princess, Demi Lovato. Ha. There was also a video of some lady showing you how to a proper curtsey. You could also learn the waltz via the steps painted on the floor. My sister and I had a try. Ha. There’s all sorts of interactive things in the Palace, it’s really great.
If anyone happens to come visit London, then Kensington Palace is a definite must see.
After Kensington Palace, we went shopping. We cruised up and down Kensington High Street and I got a bit excited in Waterstones. Yay for the 3 for 2 book offer, though. Brilliant for a book lover such as myself. I purchased ‘The Idiot’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky, ‘The Lady Elizabeth’ by Alison Weir and of course, a classic, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. I’m going to start with ‘The Idiot’ after I finished reading ‘Queen of Silk’ as it seems a really interesting book.
In The Idiot, the saintly Prince Myshkin returns to Russia from a Swiss sanatorium and finds himself a stranger in a society obsessed with wealth, power and sexual conquest. He soon becomes entangled in a love triangle with a notorious kept woman, Nastasya, and a beautiful young girl, Aglaya. Extortion and scandal escalate to murder, as Dostoevsky’s ‘positively beautiful man’ clashes with the emptiness of a society that cannot accommodate his innocence and moral idealism. The Idiot is a both powerful indictment of that society and a rich and gripping masterpiece.
We caught the bus to Westfields (HUGE shopping centre) and shopped there too. I LOVE it in there, especially the Disney store. It’s better than the one in Oxford Street even thought that one has two floors, the one in Westfields seems much bigger. Ha.
OH, my mummy bought me a new phone as a birthday present. LG Cookie Black, it is soooooo nice. I’ve been wanting a new phone for AGES and now I finally have one – so I’m definitely a happy bunny (: It reminds me of my iPod touch because it had a QWERTY keyboard and it’s also touch screen. So, I really love it.
All in all, I had a brilliant day. My grandparents came to visit in the evening and I got even more money.
I’m off to Paperchase tomorrow. Need to do some school shopping for September. I could do to WHSmiths but I don’t like their stationery choice any more. Paperchase is so much more classy. Plus, I got paid yesterday and getting paid more next Saturday as I’m going to be working Wednesday and Thursday. September 1st will be my last day working during the week before I go back to school and then it’s back to Saturday and Sunday.
It’s Mutay’s birthday on Saturday! My friend, Laura, was going to have a BBQ on the Saturday, so they decided to combine it with Mutay’s birthday and have a birthday party (: I love a good BBQ, so I’m going there straight after work. Yum, yum chicken time. Get down with it, ha.
It’s also my other friend’s birthday, Sham, on Sunday – so she’s having something at Pizza Express on Monday. BBQ and pizza… whatta life (;
