OkCupid: The Messages

I’ve had an amusing/weird few days on OkCupid. I’ve gotten a lot of messages (not to blow my own horn) and it’s been funny to see the sort of messages guys send. Here are a few that I’ve received:

1. Normal ones

This is how to properly start a conversation with someone. These are the messages I will most likely reply to. People love polite manners!

2. People who have actually READ your profile

I loved receiving this message because it showed that the guy actually took the time to read my profile! That is what I like to see. Nothing worst than skimming.

3. Cheesy pickup lines

Oh God. I hate cheesy pickup lines. I know the people say them as a joke but they just rub me up the wrong way. Maybe I’m just too picky.

4. No beating around the bush

Hold your horses, bucko.

I have actually gotten an invitation for drinks, as well! I’m a bit hesitant so I’m still thinking about it but he seems okay. We shall see but experiment wise that would be awesome blog worthy news, haha.

From the name itself, is OkCupid like an app where people can talk to you based on the same interests? Those normal messages look pretty standard to reply to. Nothing overly creepy like “hi baby” or something of the likes.

It’s a bonus when someone actually reads your profile. It shows that they took an extra step out there to start up a conversation with you!

Cheesy pickup lines aren’t the way to go with strangers for that reason. I never liked cheesy pickup lines from strangers ever :I. I could maybe tolerate it if it’s a nerdy one from my boyfriend or something.

Number 4 is just annoying. That reminds me of some stranger chick messaging me with “que passo baby” the other day. &__&. Hopefully some interesting things will happen soon :P.

OkC and the some of the other dating sites can be a bit ridiculous, but I’m glad it isn’t a total creep-fest for you!

On a somewhat related note, have you seen http://creepywhiteguys.tumblr.com? Some (most) of those messages are just horrifying.

I spent my lunch looking through that website and I honestly can’t believe the audacity of some men. Especially when I came across the one that threatened mass genocide if the person didn’t date them. Seriously, WTF?

Lol, messages like the ones you’ve shared always make me laugh. What’s even more funny is when you get them on places like Twitter or DailyBooth (may it RIP) from guys who can clearly see you’re married and yet they still think they have a chance. Um, no. Lol.

But like everyone else said, at least the messages you’ve received aren’t too creepy.

Aw, I miss Dailybooth! Guys are way too brave on the Internet D:

Haha, these made me laugh, especially the one with the cheesy pick-up line! You haven’t had too many weirdos on there yet then??

Cheesy pick-up lines are hilarious – but only funny when people aren’t using them seriously. If they are then that’s a completely different story,… you might wanna stay away from those people before they send an application to the British Alphabet Association (I hope this exists) asking if they can put ‘u’ and ‘i’ together, then we’ll all have to teach our future children an alphabet that focuses on lovey-dovey bullshit.

If you do decide to go for drinks be careful (it’s not with whatsapp guy is it?? haha) and hope you have fun!

God forbid it be with WhatsApp guy! But thank you, and I will (If I do decide to go) 😀 X

Glad you didn’t receive anything too unbearable as of yet. I hope it stays that way. How do these messages compare with the one your friends got? I look forward to that guest post, if it ever happens. xD

My friend actually received this message:

“You seem fun, you’re totally the kind of person I’d go down to the beach with, drink a box of wine and laugh all night”

And so she asked him if that was his default message and he replies, “Yes, it’s what my mother wrote this morning so I can send to a thousand girls.” Hahaha.

Hopefully getting a post up soon 🙂

At least he had the decency to answer honesty. Brownie points for him. 😀

I once received a message from a guy that detailed our impending marriage and divorce, right down to who got the beach house in Malibu… It was…strange to say the least. I never messaged him back because it was right after I had met and started dating my current boyfriend, but if I had been single, I might have. It was pretty clever and made me laugh.

Ahahahahaha! It’s always good when a guy tries something different to get your attention 🙂 As long as it isn’t in a creepy way, of course.
