Acne is the devil.
I remember when I was sixteen and my face looked like there were mini footballer players dotted all around it. Red spots, pus-y pimples, acnes scars – you name it, it was horrid. I’m not entirely sure what it was that cleared up my acne, but apart from the odd flare up my skin has been amazing since.
It has taken me ages to find a skin care routine that’s right for me, though, as I have combination skin; meaning I have a oily t-zone and super dry cheeks. My skin care routine might not work for everyone, but there are definitely a few products that I think everyone should invest in.
B. Pure Micellar Water
I’ve been seeing this in Superdrug (my favourite shop, if you haven’t noticed) for a while. I recently bought B. Clean Melting Gel Cleanser, which is amazing, and I thought I’d give their Micellar Water a go. I have no idea why I haven’t tried it sooner! It aims to cleanse, tone and refresh the skin and it does exactly that.
At first, I wasn’t sure about using micellar water because it is effectively microscopic oil particles suspended in water, and as my skin is already so oily, who wants to add something like that to the mix? However, my skin looks and feels a lot smoother, and I can tell it’s working because when I look at the cotton pad I use on my face, it’s dirty AF. TMI, maybe?
I use it in the mornings and evenings and I can definitely tell it’ll make a difference in the long run. 🙂
Superdrug Tea Tree Facial Wash
I swear by tea tree products. I used tea tree oil ages ago, but swapped to the facial wash because it’s less messy. I’m not really about big name brands, so I opted for Superdrug’s own brand tea tree facial wash as a starter. It smells great, and I love how it leaves my skin feeling. It’s weird, but I feel like if my skin feels cold, tingly and refreshed after using something then it’s worked how it’s supposed to.
Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion with Shea Butter
As my skin is eczema prone, it is important for me to find something that not only tames flare ups but also isn’t too heavy on my skin. I hate looking like a grease ball. Whilst it does have shea butter, it is fragrance free. I love nice smelling lotions, but I find the ones that have fragrances always affect my eczema more. Which sucks, but that’s life.
Aveeno does have a slight oat-y smell, due to it containing finely‐milled oatmeal, oat oil and oat essence but it is barely noticeable. I mostly use it for my body, but I’ve found that as it’s not too heavy I can use just a little on my face and it goes a long way.
Pure Deep Cleansing Face Wipes
I picked these beauties up during a little trip to Poundland and they were 2 for £1. Amazing! I’ve tried plenty of different wipes before but I’ve always found they either leave my skin dry and/or feeling super itchy. These ones, however, are great and very mild on my skin.
After a long day at work, once I get home, I like to just use these to quickly clean my face before I even settle down and do anything else. I feel more refreshed once I’ve done this 🙂 They are paraben free and contain zinc, vitamin B3 and witch hazel.
I also recently tried out Skin Chemist’s professional facial treatment, and my face definitely felt a lot cleaner, smoother and looked healthier after using it. It has tamed down a lot of the dryness the weather can cause.
This is a 5 day treatment of a concentrated facial treatment designed to fight the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The active ingredients work together boosting your appearance by diminishing fine lines and wrinkles and firming the skin. The treatment penetrates the deeper dermal layers, replenishing moisture and restoring vital nourishment.
Whilst I am not in the business of even thinking about wrinkles or anything like that, this treatment has definitely helped a lot with the hydration of my skin. For me, personally, I feel like it has evened out my skin tone, as well. (My forehead is way darker than the rest of my face, which makes me look great when i get a tan ?)
They also kindly sent me two of their blemish sticks, which I’ve found have made some difference in this one particular blemish on my face. I still have yet to get conclusive results, but I will definitely let you guys know how I get on it. The Bee Venom Repair & Protect is based on real Bee Venom and Allantoin!
My skin is super important, so I’m always looking for anything that will protect it (and keep me looking fine as hell). If you have any suggestions of things I should try, give me a shout! 🙂
What’s your skincare routine?
