My Mum

IMG_6429

We’ve never been a sentimental family. We say ‘I love you’, but it’s seldom often. However, we always show much we love each other whether it be through little or big acts of kindness.

I recently received an email from Joe Blogs Network about an exciting competition to win a trip to Bruges with Great Rail Journeys. All you have to do is write why you’re thankful for your mum – if I listed ALL the reasons why I’m thankful for my mum, we’d be here all day, possibly all week.

In that vein, however, this post is for my mother to tell her how much I love her, appreciate her and am so, so thankful for her. My mother is the best mother in the entire universe (and all other existing universes).

Imagine leaving your home country of 34 years and moving to whole new country. It’s probably a different world, right? New people, new culture, new everything. Well, that’s exactly what my mother did.

She moved halfway across the world. She moved away from all of her family and friends, which I’m sure is the hardest thing anyone could ever do. I can’t imagine ever moving so far away from my family and friends, but who knows what the future holds for me? I feel like she put her life on hold, so that myself and then my sister, when she was born 7 years after me, could have the best possible life.

I’m thankful for all the times when I was growing up, that she encouraged me to do what I wanted in life. She was and always has been supportive of me wanting to be an author, but never mollycoddled me into thinking it would be an easy road. She’s taught me so many valuable things in life.

She has always inspired me to do what is right by me, and even when something unexpected gets in the way, she’s always been there. I’m thankful for all the time she has taken to help me with whatever it is I’ve needed. Without her, I probably wouldn’t be who I am today (how cliche). I’ll always remember how happy she was when I graduated from university.

I may technically be a fully fledged adult, but I’ll always turn to my mum in times of need. Even when she tells me to go away, haha. For the past 15 years she has worked so hard to raise my sister and I, and considering the way we turned out, I’d say she’s done a helluva job. I think 15 years of hard work definitely warrants a much needed break.

And, although it’s usually the dad who walks the daughter down the aisle, I wouldn’t mind flying in the face of tradition and having my mum walk me down the aisle.

To my mother; my Wonder Woman and Supergirl all wrapped into one – thank you, and I hope you’ll be there for me, forever.

Happy Mother’s Day ❤

This was a lovely post. I really liked reading about your mum’s history and what she did 🙂 I think it’s amazing that she left for another country, far from her family, at the age of 34! Just thinking about moving within Korea gives me a panic attack, so I couldn’t imagine doing another country!

And yes, I think it’d be awesome if your mum walked you down the aisle. That’s a neat concept, and something I’d not thought of before!

Mums are special, and your post definitely portrays that! ^^

What a beautiful post! I have so much respect for both my parents for coming to America after spending their whole lives in America. It’s such a big jump! And they’ve worked so hard to ensure I have a good education/life. <3

But I'm curious, isn't mother's day in May? Or is it different in England?

Aww, this is super sweet. You look so much like her! I hope this was enough to get you that vacation but I think it was more than enough to show your mom how much you care =)
