Life Lately 3

I didn’t have any preplanned posts lined up, but as I’ve made the effort to post every Sunday since the beginning of this year I felt it necessary to blog today! Here’s a rundown of everything that has happened so far, this year:

January

  • I took my mother for afternoon tea at the British Museum. Thanks to a Groupon voucher, we had a wonderful time and the deal even included Prosecco. My mother doesn’t really drink so I got to have hers as well, ha.
  • I finally took the plunge and started to promote my blog posts on Instagram. I know some have been doing this for ages, so this is obviously not a new concept, but I tend to keep my blog and Instagram separate. However, this year is about stepping out of my comfort zone ~ I’m loving the results, too!
  • I started properly using the Happiness Planner, which I blogged about here. It has been so helpful to me!
  • I discovered Sanrio’s new character, Aggretsuko, and absolutely fell in love with her because she is so relatable.

  • I applied to a couple of jobs, but to no avail. Don’t you hate it when you go for an interview and then don’t hear anything back at all? Not even to let you know you weren’t successful? Hmmm.
  • I went on the Emirates Air Line, which is always a joy and gives a lovely view of London. Also, the Royal Observatory in Greenwich gives an AMAZING view of London and you get to stand on the historic Meridian Line and see the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Thames Clipper is a river bus service on the River Thames (duh) that is also a lovely way to go around London.
  • Finally got to go to Hawksmoor with Mutay for our monthly dinner date. There was a BIG kerfuffle just trying to get a table. I arrived at the Knightsbridge branch first, but then was told that they were having problems in their kitchen so we had to be moved to the Seven Dials branch. After a trek by tube, I arrived and met up with Mutay only to be told our name wasn’t on the list despite having been told by the lady in Knightsbridge that she had called and said that we would be coming. Stress. We eventually found somewhere else to eat, but then as we were sitting down we got a call from Hawksmoor saying they had found Mutay’s name on the system, it was just spelt incorrectly. Sigh. So, we trekked allllllll the way back. Thankfully, the food at Hawksmoor was delicious and we did have a good evening in the end.

February

  • Started reading ‘Get Your Sh*t Together’ by Sarah Knight and had my mind blown. She is also the author of ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving A F*ck’, which I definitely want to invest in soon. I love that she described GYST as a anti-self-help self-help book because whilst she helps you get your sh*t together, it’s really down to you at the end of the day. Bonus points for the colouring page in the book.
  • Started focusing more on getting my manuscript written and made so much progress in terms of characters and plot. SUPER excited!
  • Went to OXO Tower with Mutay for our monthly dinner date and had some delicious food, amazing conversation and overall good vibes. I don’t know what I’d do without our monthly dinner dates!
  • Read Sula by Toni Morrison, which was recommended to me by Tara. Absolutely LOVED the book and I literally read it in a day.
  • Went to Big Easy and ate waaaay too much food: popcorn fried shrimp, BBQ chicken, coleslaw, mac and cheese and cornbread muffin. I literally had to sleep as soon as I got back home. Mouthwatering.
  • Visited the Natural History Museum for the first time in YEARS. I think some parts were under refurbishment, but I still got to see the huge animatronic T-Rex and loads of other exhibits, which was fun.
  • Went to Edinburgh, which you can read about here! Scottish accents ๐Ÿ˜
  • Went to a bar called Tequila Mockingbird (geddit?) for a friend’s birthday and then another called The Toy Shop where they have a cocktail served in a lego mug. AMAZING. Such a fun night!
  • Pancake Day was on the 28th and OMG. I made American-style pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup drizzled all over it. It was so gorgeous and I documented the whole affair on my Instagram story. I also went to Flat Iron in the evening with friends where we were given free salted caramel ice cream with chocolate. #blessed

March

  • It’s only the 5th, so not much has happened yet but watch this space.
  • I have an exciting post coming up on the 26th for AnneMarie’s #WalangHiya project.
  • I am also taking steps to fundraise for my chosen charity, Alopecia UK ~ thanks to Tara’s post for inspiring me!
  • Looking forward to seeing the Inspector Calls in the theatre, eating at Roka (a Japanese restaurant) and seeing Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie at Southbank as part of WOW – Women of the World!

Yay for promoting your posts on Instagram with great results ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s great that you’re stepping out of your comfort zone.

Aggretsuko? Now that’s new HAHAHA! I never even heard of it, but just that one screenshot alone is so relatable!

I hate job interviews X_X They are the pits. I wish you luck on the job hunt, though, and hope you will land something <3

I need to check out the Sarah Knight books now. Thanks for mentioning that. I will look into it. So glad you like Sula, btw. Woot for your manuscript! Keep it up, Chynna! Write it out, girl ๐Ÿ˜€

Tequila Mockingbird? BWAHAHAHAHA That's an absolute gem. ๐Ÿ˜€ Pancake sounds so good! I remember you tweeting about it, haha ^^

Enjoy your March! So glad to hear you're going to fundraise for your chosen charity! I look forward to hearing about that. I'm also honoured that I inspired you XD

I love these round-up posts, I love reading them and writing them myself because I get to get an awesome overview of what you’ve been up to! It feels like we’re all like chatting to each other over coffee, except online of course xD

I haven’t been to the British Museum in such a long time. In fact, I think I’ve only been to it once! I really enjoyed it when I did go though ๐Ÿ˜€ It was just a random trip to Paris a few years ago! I’m glad you enjoyed it with your mum, though. And I know how you like your drinks – lucky you got to have hers too! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I LOVE it when you post about your blog on your instagram, it allows me to remember that you have posted a blog post when I miss it on Twitter ๐Ÿ˜› Also, more promotion is always better! It’s often hard for me to share stuff on Facebook and Instagram because I have a lot more people I know IRL on there but when I started doing it, it’s become second nature and I get to talk about why I love blogging IRL to people and share the inspiration which is always ALWAYS fun <3

I wish you the best with your job interviews. I hate not getting feedback, I would definitely follow up because it's never cool being left hanging like that! I always write follow-up emails after interviews (out of habit) just to say thank you for their time and that I look forward to hearing back from them, it usually prompts them for feedback when I've not been successful!

I NEED THAT BOOK. I love reading "self-help" books, they always keep me on track and happy ๐Ÿ˜€ I recommend Girl Code, it's really motivating!

Have an awesome March, I can't wait to hear about your adventures to come <3

Can’t wait to have you participate in the Reclaiming Walang Hiya project!! And you’re looking for a new job? What have you been up to lately in that regard? I haven’t been catching up on your blog as often as I used to!

It’s awesome that you took your mom to have tea! My mom is rather picky on how I spend my money when it comes to her :’). I love your new promoting concept. It’s great that you’ve been getting good results so far! I tend to keep my blog and Instagram separate… The same goes with Twitter. Some people IRL are too freakishly stalkerish.

Aggretsuko is so cute!!!! UGggg buy ALL the Aggretsuko things!!!!

I hate it when I don’t get a feedback about my interview or application @__@. Hope you’ll find a kickass new job soon!! You and Mutay are the cutest with your bff dates :D. I hope to get to your level some day XD. UGh, I would be livid if I had to go through what you did with Hawksmoor. At least you both had a great time at the end :).

Keep it up with your manuscript! I remembered you telling me about it and I have high hopes for you!!! (abusing !’s here). The next time you come to LA, I’m taking you to a legit diner with legit pancakes. First thing: I need to find one of those LOL. I am jelly of your cocktail that was served in a lego mug!

Hope you’ll have a great month!

Ah, I cannot wait to hear more about your fundraising for Alopecia UK!

The Emirates Air Line looks cool. I have heard of it but gosh, what Iโ€™d give to go in a cable car (I know they go by other names) again โ€“ it has been a very long time since I have been on one.

I remember a time when I was applying for so many job interviews but I didnโ€™t get a response to even tell me that I didnโ€™t get through. Iโ€™d just like to know! Even if you reply with โ€œnoโ€ in an email… I mean, it seriously does not take much time, and I can have some peace of mind instead of wondering whether my application has even been looked at.

I only share my Fashion Friday posts on Instagram, but I think I should promote my other posts there too! I donโ€™t know if it helps much with more people actually visiting my blog, but itโ€™s worth a shot anyway. I still like to share pretty pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚ I do more promotion on Twitter, though, because it can be easy to miss just one tweet so I share several times.

I noticed the โ€œSH*Tโ€ in the photo of the colouring page in the book. I love it haha. I have heard of โ€œThe Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ckโ€ and someone did summarise it for me but I was thinking of giving it a read too. LOL.

Also, that is annoying about Hawksmoor but glad you had a good feast anyway. If my name was not on the list I would actually pester until I got a seat in there… no way I would walk out especially if they told me my name was on the list and I had gone to all that trouble to call!

  6. March 6, 2017 / 1:59 pm

I also tend to keep my blog and other social media apart. I feel like the people in my real life and my online friends need to be separated lol

Same, on not getting response after job interviews! I’ve only been rejected once, last year, but it was the company I really wanted to work for. I ended up working for their rival company lmao
Sending you good luck for your upcoming interviews <3

Omg you'll get to see Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie! I love her, she's the first one to "wake me" into becoming a feminist.

  7. March 7, 2017 / 9:21 am

The only social media connected to my blog is my Twitter account. Mostly to keep people from Facebook out! Hahaha. Seems like you have a lot going for you these past few months. Mine had been pretty uneventful until now. But uneventful is better than stressful. Good luck on future job interviews!

  8. March 9, 2017 / 3:56 am

I love Aggretsuko! I like how Sanrio is putting more personality into their characters now instead of just “cute”. I also love Gudetama ๐Ÿ˜€

Good luck on your job hunt! I think it’s rude when companies don’t let you know the results. It’s better to know that you didn’t make it than to wait and just wonder about it.

That’s too bad your experience with Hawksmoor was so troublesome. I’m glad it worked out in the end and the food was good though!

haha, I love how those books are named “Get Your Sh*t Together” and “The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck”. It totally makes me want to check them out now.

Sounds like you had a fun January and February filled with lots of good food! I hope March will be a good one too!

  9. March 9, 2017 / 9:09 pm

I thought I already left a comment but I guess I didn’t?? My brain is obviously all over the place. I haven’t heard of that Sanrio character before but I used to be really into Sanrio when I was younger, haha. I hope you hear back from some jobs soon! I remember when I applied for jobs right after undergrad and it was seriously so stressful :/ I have to look for another after I graduate from grad school and just thinking about it stresses me out. Fingers crossed that you’ll hear something back!

LOL Tequila Mockingbird, haha. What a great play on words! That’s also awesome that you’ve been promoting your blog on Instagram. I also tend to keep my social media and blog separate just because I have people I see in person on social media and besides my sister, no one really knows I blog, haha. That’s great that you’re making efforts to step outside your comfort zone though! I know that it is really hard to do.

Also – Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie!!! I’m so jealous! I’ve seen one of her talks via video and read her mini-book “We Should All Be Feminists” which I thought was really awesome.
