January Depression

Between having Netflix marathons of White Collar and desperately trying to come up with more ideas for my story, I have sunk into what I call ‘January Depression’.

This period of time is right after all the excitement of Christmas and New Year when you notice that your trousers are a little tighter than you’d like and all you want to do is stay at home and watch TV because you need to save money. The only times you’ll go out partying is if you hear, “Entry’s free” or “Free drinks all night” and the only times you’ll see your friends is if they invite you around for dinner. Damn you, London travel. (I’m breaking out in hives just looking at the price rise)

After blowing a teeny tiny fortune on Christmas presents and getting drunk on NYE, it’s time for me to put my feet up and gently nurse my bank account back to health. It isn’t looking so good, however, because there are so many other things I have to pay for.

My job is also on the line despite my internship being extended to February (it was originally meant to end January). My hours are being cut down to three days a week, which means less pay. This basically translates to, “SHIT. START PANICKING NOW.”

I’m hoping the app that we’re running does more successfully in these last few weeks because then there’s a better chance of me nabbing a full-time job. If it doesn’t then my boss has to find another job, because he’s paying or this out of his own pocket at the moment.

In good news, if it doesn’t work out my boss has promised to help me in looking for a new job.

Honestly, I don’t even know what I want as a full-time job. I’m having fun running social media/blogging but I don’t know how many opportunities there are out there, at the moment. I would love to have something that incorporates writing in the job description. Obviously, my endgame is to be an author but even hard-nut aspiring authors need a stable income. I hate growing up.

Best of luck with your job regardless of if you get to keep your old one or if you find a new one! I remember back when I was younger I had such ambition to become an author, I even wrote a book and sent it out to different authors hoping they’d read it and help me get published lol. But that dream is over now and I’m basically stuck wondering where I’m going with my life lol. Glad you joined me in the broke club lmao, it’s gonna be a while before we can get back up there but we will.. till then, to the couch it is!

Thank you! How ambitious of you 🙂 I haven’t tried that approach and I don’t even know what kind of approach I’m going to take once I’m ready to be published. There are just so many options now!

I am so broke at the minute, it’s stressing me out. I hope your internship kicks back in again and the app does well. At least you have the support of your boss, that’s a small comfort. Good luck with writing though! There are more and more social media writing jobs appearing, and hopefully they’d give you enough freedom to start writing a story or play at the same time! I don’t want a full time job, I want a part time job that pays well so I can do what I actually want to do in my spare time, without the stress of having to do it to put food on the table. I can but hope!

Ah, I definitely understand. I try to relax because otherwise I break out in spots because of stress, but sometimes it’s really difficult. Something like blogging would be really good in the job description but my creative writing I leave to my spare time. Growing up, eh?

Sounds like you’re going through a lot. I hope everything gets better! If you’d like, want to follow each other?

I feel you about this “January Depression”. I feel so empty right now… Just like any January.

January is like the hangover month for everyone after the partying and celebration after Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years XD. I hope you’ll cope with what’s going on. It sucks that your hours are getting cut! I wish you the best of luck with the app so that you can get the full time job! I’m sure you’ll figure out what you want. Go around jobs and see what you like. You know what’s best for you and business 🙂

Yeah, I was thinking that I should do different kinds of internships to see what I have a feel for. It’s just getting them and whether they’ll be paid which is the most important, cause mama gotta eat!

I can relate so much to this post. I finish uni this year and I don’t know what I want to do at all. It’s the big decision between following dreams (that may never be followed) or going with the best financial decision. I wish you luck deciding – it’s so complicated.

I worked at a social media company for work experience last year and really enjoyed it, it’s a shame there aren’t more jobs in my area like that. Hopefully you get to be a published author (I’d love to do this, writing for a living but writing exactly what you want would be amazing), good luck with whatever you choose to do.

This year is the year for me to start saving too, Christmas stole all my money! Haha. Hope you get more hours at work.
    xx

Decision making definitely makes my brain hurt. It’s like for the first 18 years you’re chilling and then as soon as you get to uni, everything fast tracks and you’re forced to make quick decisions. Unless, of course, you’re one of those annoying people who have 5 year plans. Boring, lol. I wish you luck with your decisions though!

January seems to get most people in a depressed state, especially if they don’t have a significant other since any store you go into is pushing Valentine’s Day. I hope you feel better.

Ughhhhhh, Valentine’s Day. Let me just wallow in my singleness, swimming in my tears. (Lol, jk)
