Christmas Baking

Tis the season to be jolly! πŸŽ„

Today marks 1 week until Christmas, which also means the start of Weekmas which Mutay suggested I do as I did want to have some festive posts up, but I don’t have time for Blogmas or 12 Days of Christmas!

I’ve been really getting into the festivities this season and despite it still not feeling exactly like Christmas just yet for me, it’s been really fun. From decorating my desk at work (my extra ass bought a small Christmas tree and put tinsel and lights on my screen) to the gingerbread house decorating (click here to see how it turned out), it’s definitely getting me in the mood.

This past week I’ve been trying out sugar cookies and attempting to making fudge. The fudge attempt was not as successful as I would have liked it to be, but it was still pretty tasty albeit very sweet. My first batch of sugar cookies turned out okay, but when I went to decorate them that’s where I messed up. The icing I made was way too runny and I didn’t really know about flooding cookies πŸ˜«

My second batch came out a lot better. I remember buying the cookie cutters from Poundland and the lady at the till said to me, “You make the cookies and come back and give them to me, yeah?”. Haha. Food colouring gel is a lot better, but in order to get a bright colour you basically have to use the whole tube – so the icing I used for my Christmas tree cookies turned out a light green, but still pretty good.

I also made star sugar cookies, which I was going to make snowflake designs on, but I messed that up as well πŸ˜‚ I ended up just icing an outlining and flooding the middle with icing, then sprinkling edible silver dust on top! I’m also going to be attempting to make meringue Christmas trees and peppermint bark, so I’ll keep you updated with how that turns out in later posts this week.

There’s nothing like the smell of baking cookies filling the house and I had a lot of fun decorating the cookies. They were also a hit at work! It was my first time making my own royal icing, and I’m pretty chuffed I didn’t mess it up. I still have some dough left over from yesterday’s batch, so I’ll definitely be making more cookies this week!

Your cookies came out great! The decorating sounds like it would be fun. I’ve been into watching Christmas baking videos on Youtube LOL

Also kudos to you on doing Weekmas! I don’t know how you do it, haha. Also your tiny Christmas tree sounds really cute??

Girlllll! Those cookies look bomblicious! And you decorated them sooooo nicely! πŸ˜€ You have skills, my friend! I wish I’d seen this post earlier, because now I feel like I am in a festive mood on Christmas Eve! Before, I’d been feeling quite bleh, but now I am feeling happier. Thanks, C!

I don’t bake at all, so your skills are far better than what I could do. I also don’t think you give yourself enough credit. They look really good, and the trees might have not been the β€œright” colour but they are decorated so neatly. I’m not surprised they were a hit with your workmates πŸŽ„ Also loving the silver dust on the stars! ✨
